What organizations does NoSo Knit benefit? Handmade Item Donations
There are many places where people would love a handmade clothing item! If you need ideas for patterns, visit the bundles in our Ravelry group!
Adele's Legacy This charity wants acrylic hats, scarves, and pullover long-sleeve sweaters for children ages pre-K through fifth grade (children's through adult sizes). They need about 500 to serve their chosen school! They prefer knitted sweaters in any color that you fancy. This is a great place to make something a little more fun and colorful!
Carilion Palliative Care Unit, Legacy Shawl Project Carilion Clinic's Project Legacy Shawl is looking for shawls, roughly 24 x 60 for patients near the end of life. Knitters are invited to donate a much needed gift to a patient receiving end-of-life care who is in need of contact, compassion, and comfort. The only stipulation is that the material used to make the shawl be soft and washable. If you wish to use hand-wash-only fibers, pin a note indicating care instructions to the finished shawl. Shawl kits are available at New River Fiber Company in Christiansburg, Wool Workshop in Roanoke, and Yarn Explosion in Roanoke. If you have some time to knit for those receiving end-of-life care, feel free to pick up a kit. When you are done, return the completed shawl to any of the previously mentioned yarn shops and a NoSo Knit volunteer will deliver them to the hospital.
Roanoke Rescue Mission This charity serves a population of all sizes; they need any washable, dryable items of clothing sized for infants through adults.
